The painting of The Masks

I have chosen to replace the white with light Naples yellow, because pure white is very artificial and when mixed it bleaches the other colours. I once had a teacher who said painting with white is like painting with tooth paste. The light Naples yellow is the lightest colour in my palette and I use it to mix with other colours and at the same time keep their full brightness.

Usually I work with a specific project in mind. If there is a book that inspires me; a movie, poem, exhibition, or some idea I want to develop, I start taking notes and ideas for painting and end up doing a series of paintings. I have a strong commitment with the human figure and work most of the time with a model. I paint the not only the physical appearance but also the personality and the emotions of the person in front of me. To me art is also about sharing something with other people, even if it is only a few people. But being an artist is above all about being your self, and there is no recipe for that. There can be no rules in art because a work of art is bound to be a permanent statement of freedom, and each artist has different boundaries that he or she wants to cross.
